"Service is the natural part of my life, God gets me into a relationship with Himself whereby I understand His call, then I do things out of sheer love for Him on my own account. To serve God is the deliberate love-gift of a nature that has heard the call of God."- Oswald Chambers (My Utmost for His Highest)

becoming His Ambassadors

OK..here it is. Everyone has been bugging me about updating my xanga and myspace so that people can know whats going on up here; so here goes! And because of my personality it will be divided into nice little sub-sections.

Home Life

Life in Idaho is pretty cool, still. Prissy and I work Monday through Friday at the Center for Independent Living. She's a therapy tech and I'm a Developmental Specialist. We work with people who have developmental disabilities, like autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, etc. It's so great! It's the first job I've had where I didn't mind getting up and going to work in the morning. That's pretty much the bulk of our week. When we get home at the end of the day, we're so tired that we usually just eat supper, watch a little TV, and go to bed. We decided last night that we need to be more physically active, so we decided to go on diets and start exercising together! YAY! It seriously is going to be alot of fun! I like to exercise but sometimes I'm just too lazy. So hopefully that'll change. We're still living in the apartment, we plan to wait until after winter before we try to find a house. Then we can get a dog!! HECK YEAH! Married life is so amazing! My wife becomes more and more beautiful everyday!

Eli came to visit us this past weekend! It was so great! It was just like being at home! I got so used to her being there because it seemed so normal. After she got on the plane, I felt like something had been stolen from me all over again. It's cool though, because God taught me a long time ago that there is no distance in His Spirit. Which is pretty cool.

The Ministry

Things at the church have been fairly interesting in the last couple of months. Our pastor resigned a few weeks ago, which has made things change, all for the good though. God gave us a peace that it was definitely His timing, and that He would take care of His church. It really did come at a great time. The week after he left, we had a church worker's conference to go to and this year's theme about "Becoming a Fully Mobilized Church." Which is exactly what our church needs to become. They talked alot about purpose and knowing where your church is going instead of just lingering. We are not also the "cell-group pastors" (I guess thats what you'd call us) But we will be starting our church's first cell group and training leaders to plant other cell groups. We believe that through cell groups we can reach at least 150 people in the next three years. I'm also singing on the worship team at church now. God had been speaking it to me for some time but with everything going on with our pastor leaving and all the transitions we were going through, I wasn't sure if it was time. Its so awesome being up there and seeing our people worship our Savior. There's nothing like it. A couple of Sunday's ago I looked out in the audience and saw one of our youth singing, but not JUST singing, actually agreeing with the words in his heart, THAT was extremely rewarding! God's so amazing. The word said that He is in no hurry to judge people, but that He waits patiently for them to come to Him. Sometimes I want results right away, but the Lord desires true committment, more than just mere results.

Prissy and I watched End of the Spear the other night. Wow, is all I can say! If you haven't seen it, you really should watch it. Now, I totally understand how Jim Elliott, Nate, and the other missionaries felt for Waidoni people. I can't imagine what committment that took to move so far away from family and friends. I thought Idaho was far! But I can definitely relate to them. Prissy and I were talking in my office today about our ministry here. We've come to the realization that YES we are here as Christ missionaries. I know that in super-Christian-spiritual land, "everyone is God's missionary" (blah blah blah) But we're talking realistically, we are called here as missionaries. Idaho, although its very amazing and beautiful, is a very different place from what we're used to. We have to learn the culture, learn the way of life, learn their needs, and even learn some of the language :) in order to reach the people that God has divinely and strategically placed us here for. You never fully understand ministry until God burden's your heart so much for someone that you can't sleep or eat, and that it takes a physical effect on you, because you are so passionate about seeing them encounter the love and grace that we live in everyday. That's how we feel about the people of Idaho. They are our Waidoni people and our job is not to judge them, but to let them know that someone loves them more than words could express, money could buy, and the human emotions can comprehend. So we've accepted that things will move slowly, but praise God that things will actually happen! There a few kids in our apartment complex that we have taken under our wings and God has given us such a burden for these children. God kind of has us focusing on one family in particular. There are four children, three of them are siblings and one is a younger cousin. They all live with their grandmother. The three that are siblings; their mom is in prison and their dad lives in Boise and has nothing to do with them, hardly. The other younger cousin has two brothers, that live with their dad, but were here for the summer, and their mom lives in Twin which is only 20 minutes away, but he still only sees her like twice a week. Yesterday I was talking with the oldest of the kids (Robert) and we were talking about Mormonism and other religions and I got to share the plan of salvation with him. But oddly enough, I don't think that he was the one that God had me sharing the gospel with. His friend James was standing there with him and I could see his eyes lighting up when I would talk about God's grace and love. So we're expecting him to accept Christ very soon! YAY!!

Also, recently, God has been giving us a burden for college students. When I was in college, I was too concerned with ministering to college students, but there is such a huge need in this area. My friend Jim is the Chi Alpha director at CSI (the college next to our town) and so we will be partnering with him to do some collegiate ministry. Jim is married and he and his wife don't have any kids, so this is an opportunity for us to hang out with some people that are not 90! YAY for that! God's also given us a harvest field at our jobs, I believe that some amazing things are going to begin to happen there. There are two guys at work that are college aged, and one of them God has given me a burden and an open door to be a part of his life. He even hugs me now! Crazy huh!? Men don't hug in this state. Hopefully he will be coming to church this Sunday.

I believe that is all for now. Until next time....

Love you all dearly!

It's Idaho! (that's all I can say!)

HAPPENED IN IDAHO:

GOOD

In Burley, an Idaho State Trooper was running radar. He had a perfect spot to watch for speeders, but wasn't getting any. Then he discovered the problem. A 12-year-old boy was standing up the road with a hand-painted sign which read "RADAR TRAP AHEAD!" The officer later found a young accomplice, on down the road, with a sign reading, "TIPS" and a bucket full of money.

(And we used to just sell lemonade!)

BETTER

A motorist was mailed a picture of his car speeding through an
automated radar post in Boise, Idaho. A $40 speeding ticket was
included. Being cute, he sent the police department a picture of $40. The police responded with another mailed photo of handcuffs.

BEST

A young woman was pulled over in Rupert, Idaho for speeding. As the Trooper walked to her car window, flipping open his ticket book, she said, "I bet you are going to sell me a ticket to the Idaho State Troopers Ball." He replied, "Idaho State Troopers don't have balls." There was a moment of silence while she smiled and he realized what he'd just said. He then closed his book, got back in his patrol car and left. She was laughing too hard to start her car.

I love my wife!

I've started my new job. I like it alot! Prissy is still looking for a job, but we've only been here for five days, so its not too bad. Married life is wonderful! I'm loving it! It's so awesome to come home and know that there is someone there waiting for you, or that someone else will be home soon! It's awesome! Things at the church are going good. The kids came over this past Tuesday and we baked cookies and played trivial pursuit. We had a blast! Well, I think that's it. I love yall! Talk to a later!

Kids "need to be able to stand up against society influences and instead influence society," says Angelo "Doogie" Golatt, the Buhl Calvary Assembly of God's new youth pastor.
Doogie's odyssey
One of Buhl's few black residents becomes its only youth pastor
By Blair Koch
Times-News correspondent
BUHL -- From the Bible's book of Nehemiah, the Buhl Calvary Assembly of God's new youth pastor, Angelo "Doogie" Golatt, explains to a handful of students that when you do something for God, you will face challenges and resistance.

Golatt, who relocated to Buhl from Louisiana in April, certainly has faced opposition in stepping out for faith in God, but remains steadfast in believing he is where he's supposed to be.

"It took a while to make it happen," said Golatt, 23. "But I got here and am ready to show the community youth that people love and care for them."

Golatt is one of few blacks in this town of 4,000, which according to the Census Bureau is 84 percent white and 15 percent Hispanic. His journey began a year ago, when he was just wrapping up his education at Louisiana College, a 1,000-student Christian liberal arts school. There he earned a bachelor's degree in religious education with a minor in special education.

At that time he was serving as an assistant youth minister, in charge of the middle-school department at Donahue Family Church, an independent congregation in Pineville, La.

"I was on a youth-minister Web site and a job opportunity page popped up," he said. "I saw the position here was available and ended up calling the pastor."

But God wasn't ready for him to pack his bags, Golatt says. Instead he spent the next few months with his family.

"I was in limbo," he said. "In June, my mentor told me he had been thinking and praying about me and told me to call the church's pastor and see if the position was still open."

It was.

"I came and visited Buhl in September," he said. "And over six months later, here I am."

It hasn't been easy for Golatt to leave behind his fiance and life as he knew it, but he says it will be worth it.

For the Rev. Travis Hedrick, pastor of the Buhl Calvary Assembly of God, Golatt has been a godsend. He is now Buhl's only youth pastor.

During Golatt's early fall interview, he spoke at a church rally where Hedrick saw that he was a good fit for the community's youth.

"His loving and caring heart won over all whom he met," Hedrick said. "He is exactly who I needed to take our church to the next level of ministry."

Hedrick says Buhl Calvary Assembly of God is a proactive church in the community, out to win the hearts of everyone -- regardless of age, race or gender.

"Our goal is to be a church that looks like heaven," he said. "A place of solid biblical teaching and education and to be an effective and trailblazing church in the Magic Valley."

Golatt explained that his personal vision is to raise up leaders in the Magic Valley.

"We want to rebuild standards in Buhl," he said. "Youth need to be able to stand up against society influences and instead influence society."

Preston Laing, 15, is part of the Buhl Calvary Assembly of God's youth group and is already seeing an improvement because of Golatt.

"More younger people are coming to church," he said. "Doogie is pretty cool because he is like one us."

Another member explained that Golatt is challenging their walks with God.

"He elaborates ideas we have on the Lord, and backs up what we think by having us learn more of the scriptures," Calvin Kennison said. "We are learning to love people where they are and how they are and to only seek them out and let God change them."

In the coming months the church plans to develop youth ministry programs with Sunday school classes, a junior high program called "Amped," a Wednesday night "Max" class for high school students and once-a-month "Magnify," worship and preaching time.

"I can't wait to return in June after my wedding and really get things going here," Golatt said. "God has something awesome planned for this area."

About the Assemblies of God

A confederation of largely autonomous congregations, the Assemblies of God is the fastest-growing Pentecostal church in the United States and one of the world's largest Pentecostal denominations. It claims claim more than 2.3 million members in America and more than 30 million worldwide. There are roughly 11,100 Assemblies of God churches in the U.S. and about 117,000 churches worldwide, in 120 nations.

It was formed in 1914 in Hot Springs, Ark., by the union of several small Pentecostal groups. The Assemblies of God emphasize the centrality of the Bible in Christian faith and worship. Instead of sacraments, the Assemblies have two ordinances -- baptism by total immersion and the Lord's Supper. Personal sanctification is believed to happen gradually rather than instantaneously, and millennial doctrines dealing with Christ's Second Coming and the establishment of the Kingdom of God are of great importance.

The Assemblies of God have been active in mission work in the U.S. and overseas.
